Delta 400 @ 320, Rodinal 4ml/600ml, 90 minutes standing

EDIT: above photo FP4@125, Rodinal Stand

Looks good to me. A little grainy, but the tonality works, and there are some cool edge effects in a few of these. Makes me wish I had more delta on hand.
Matt – very nice tones indeed. They look good on my work monitor – and the grain is vintage Rodinal. I am picking some Delta tomorrow.

Am I correct in saying that these were developed in Rodinal for 90 minutes without agitation, in a 1+150 water-to-developer ratio?
Very cool. They look great!
Conrad, yeah. Continuous agitation for the first minute. Then set it aside for 90 minutes. Rodinal 1+150. I don’t think the temperature matters much at this time scale, but it was somewhere around 66-67. It’s about as easy as developing gets.
Thanks for the info Matt. I just had a look at your development notes spreadsheet. I’m interested in developing my own film and I’m trying to decide what developers to start playing around with. I love the grainy look of Rodinal!
Lovely soft tonality that plays against the grain.
In the twenty or so years I shot B&W film (35mm, 6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7, and 5×4), I must have processed at least 10,000 rolls). I was vaguely aware of the standing development technique you’ve used but not once did I try it. (My loss.)
Out of curiosity, how did you decide on the dilution ratio and development time?
Jonathon, I’ve been playing with stand development off and on for the last couple of months, so this time and dilution are the results of previous shots into the dark. In general, 1+150 for anywhere from 60-90 minutes seems to give you close to box speed. 1+100 for the same time gives you about a one stop push, and 1+125 gives you something in between, like FP4 @ 200. I’m still not sure how much development goes on between 60 and 90 minutes, but it’s simple enough to let things sit for longer.
BTW, the first shot in this post is actually FP4 in rodinal stand; I wasn’t paying attention when I wrote the post.
Love the pictures! I think they are great!
