TMY2 in Rodinal stand is . . . uh . . . interesting?
What always fascinates me is how you move from film to developer to another film type to yet another developer. Wonderful images. Question: do you shoot and then think about which developer? Or do you plan shoots with a particular developer in mind? What is your process?
I rarely start with the idea to shoot something particular. How and what I shoot is an interaction between what film is loaded, what lens is mounted and what I see when I walk out the door. Choice of developer is most often driven by my curiosity; what will that look like?
I might move in that direction, but for me, right now, I’m trying to get better at (for use of an old phrase) pre-visualization, so I’m trying to stay with one or two films (FP4 and HP5) and one developer (Edwal FG-7). I’ve begun to make some progress. I’m about to embark on a project where I shoot lots of HP5 at 800 (low available light on a regular basis). Any recommendations on a developer I might try? I’m spending a month doing some test shoots, so I have some time to experiment. I’m looking to maintain true 800 ISO speed, not too worried about grain, will scan full-frame and print at about 5×7 . . . oh, wait, duh, it’s my SoFoBoMo project. Sigh. You know all about that project. Heck, I found out about it by reading your blog. Anyway, looking for sort of a gritty look. I’m thinking of giving Microphen a try.
